Overview

This is a half-day tour to fully enjoy Japanese culture in Fukuyama City, the second largest city located in eastern Hiroshima Prefecture. It includes a Zen meditation experience in a vast Japanese garden in the mountains, a walk through a historic townscape, and a tour of an imposing castle. It's close to the base airport and station, and travel time is relatively short as it's a one-city tour, so it's also recommended for those who want to take their time exploring one place.

    We will pick you up by private car or at Fukuyama Station or Hiroshima Airport. Visit the Shinshoji Zen and Garden Museum, where you can experience the teachings of Japanese culture, Zen. A Japanese garden located on an expansive site deep in the mountains that is difficult to visit on a personal trip. One of the most eye-catching is the art pavilion ``Koutei'' by contemporary artist Kohei Nawa. The huge spaceship-like structure and nature are in mysterious harmony, and you will be overwhelmed by its presence. In the darkness inside, you can experience Zen meditation using all five senses. Time to talk to your heart.

    For lunch, enjoy ``Yudame no Udon'' on the premises while thinking about the life of a Zen monk. Matcha and sweets are available in the tea room overlooking the Japanese garden.

    On the occasion of the castle's 400th anniversary in 2022, we went to Fukuyama Castle, which has just been renovated. This is a rare castle in Japan that can be seen up close from the Shinkansen platform. Boasting an unprecedented scale for the time when the castle was built, it is said to be the highest point and masterpiece of Japanese castles. Currently, there are various structures inside the castle, such as the castle tower and the moon viewing turret. Among them, the Fushimi turret and the Sujitetsu Gomon gate were given to us by Shogun Hidetada Tokugawa when the castle was built, and are designated as important cultural properties of the country. Masu.
