Overview

Discover Takehara, a town where salt production and sake making shaped its rich cultural heritage. You stroll through its well-preserved historic district, featuring elegant merchant houses, sake breweries, and townhouses.

Takehara is the birthplace of Masataka Taketsuru, the father of Japanese whiskey, who developed the whiskey industry with his Scottish wife Rita.

After a sake tasting at Fujii Sake Brewery, you take a scenic ferry ride to Osakikamijima Island, home to the History and Maritime Museum and the beautifully preserved Omochizuki Residence.
