Overview

We will provide you with a half-day tour of three cities in western Hiroshima Prefecture, where you will be immersed in local history, crafts, and alcohol. There are several driving courses in Setouchi that allow you to enjoy the beauty of the archipelago, and the Akinada Tobishima Kaido in the west is famous for its scenic area lined with historical buildings. We have prepared a course where you can enjoy food and culture to the fullest, starting from the Kaido, enjoying delicious sake at famous sake spots, and enjoying the traditional craft of making brushes.

    By private car or from Hiroshima Station or Hiroshima Airport, go to Akinada Tobishima Kaido in Kure City. This is a driving spot that connects the islands floating in the Seto Inland Sea. At the entrance is Shimokamagari Island's ``Minose District,'' which flourished as a port of call for famous people such as Joseon Tsushin Envoys and Sankin Katsutoshi Daimyo. There are many historical sites such as the Arts Center, and you can experience the good old days of Japan by walking around. Take a break at Shotoen, where you can enjoy the lush pine garden.

    Saijo, in the neighboring city of Higashihiroshima, is one of the three major spots for sake. Let's take a tour of Saijo Sakagura Street, which prospered as a stop on the Majesty Route during the Edo period. Saijo is blessed with a climate and underground water suitable for sake brewing, and there are still seven breweries here, continuing to make sake using traditional methods. Please enjoy the unique atmosphere of the cityscape, such as the red brick chimneys and the traditional Japanese wall painting "Namako Kabe".

    For lunch, let's enjoy the delicious sake hot pot prepared by the brewers. This is a hot pot dish of chicken, sand, pork, and vegetables with a simple seasoning of salt, pepper, and sake, and it is light and allows you to enjoy the original taste of the ingredients. The simple seasoning is said to be a way to not affect the taste of the sake.

    Makeup brushes used for calligraphy and makeup in Japanese culture. Kumano Town is Japan's largest producer of brushes, which are essential to daily life. Kumano brushes are a traditional craft and have fans both domestically and internationally due to their high quality, and are recommended as souvenirs. By making use of natural hair, the tips of the hair are delicate and have just the right amount of stiffness. Try your hand at making your own original brush at Koyudo, one of the town's workshops.
